Here at Ponte Vedra Beach Surgery Center, we want to make the entire surgical procedure as comfortable and hassle-free as possible for you. Our dedicated staff will be making all the necessary preparations and arrangements for your upcoming visit in our Ponte Vedra Beach, FL facility.

We will contact you prior to your scheduled procedure to go over the details of your surgery such as arrival times and medical history for anesthesia. Furthermore, we will take the time to answer or address any questions or concerns you may have.

In adherence to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy laws, we are not allowed to disclose any information about your surgery or medical history to any individual unless you give us your consent.

Surgery Guidelines

  1. Preparing for Your Surgery

    • Do not drink or eat anything 8 hours before your procedure; this is very important, and failure to comply will result in the postponement of your surgery
    • Do not smoke, dip, or chew tobacco 12 hours before your scheduled procedure time
    • If you are taking medications for high blood pressure or diabetes, contact your surgeon or discuss this with our nursing staff to ensure proper instructions
    • If you experience any change in health between your recent visit to the doctor and the day of the procedure, notify your doctor immediately; report any minor changes such as an elevated temperature, cough, or cold
    • If you are pregnant or even suspect that you are, please notify your doctor
    • For your own safety, you will not be allowed to drive a motor vehicle for 24 hours following your procedure; please make arrangements to have someone drive you and stay with you until you are dismissed; parents may want to have an additional adult to assist in accompanying a child home

  2. Day of Surgery

    • Take a bath and brush your teeth the morning of your procedure; makeup, nail polish, contact lenses, and jewelry should be removed prior to arrival
    • Dress comfortably by wearing loose clothing and sensible shoes to allow safe ambulation after the anesthesia is administered
    • Please leave all valuables at home, including jewelry, wallets, and purses
    • Bring a photo ID and all your insurance cards as they are required upon check-in
    • Please limit the number of people accompanying you; we request only 1 visitor per patient to ensure the comfort of everyone waiting
  3. After Your Procedure

    • After your procedure, you will be moved to our recovery area for monitoring by our anesthesia and nursing staff; the length of recovery varies
    • Your physician will provide post-procedure instructions regarding diet, rest, and medication; you will be given a written summary of these instructions
    • Plan to have someone stay with you for 24 hours following your procedure
  4. After receiving anesthetic medication, you must postpone the following activities for 24 hours upon discharge for your safety:

    • Driving and operating equipment
    • Signing important documents
    • Making significant decisions
    • Drinking alcoholic beverages
